That's 100% true for volleyball. The HS coaches do not teach...
the skills to make their players better (generalizing here) but rather focus on strategy of winning games and maybe run a few drills here and there. The players are expected to have learned the skills by the time they're playing varsity sports. They learn those skills on the travel teams, which hold as many skills clinics as they do practices. Plus, all the colleges send recruiters to the larger volleyball tournaments.
In February, my daughter played nine games in two days in Charlotte. That's half a season of High School volleyball. That choice would be easy for her to make.
